Seed Germination Guide:
Adenium obesum is easy to grow from seed if you follow these steps:
Soaking: Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 2-4 hours (or up to 24 hours). This softens the seed coat and kickstarts germination. Do not use boiling water .
Planting Medium: Sow seeds in a well-draining, sandy cactus mix. Scientific studies recommend sand as the ideal substrate for germination. For continued seedling growth, a mix of commercial cactus soil and sand works best .
Sowing Depth: Place seeds on the soil surface and cover lightly with a thin layer (about 1/4 inch / 0.5cm) of the mix .
Moisture & Humidity: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Cover the tray with a humidity dome or plastic wrap to retain moisture until germination .
Temperature: Maintain a warm environment. Ideal temperatures are 75-85°F (24-29°C) . Bottom heat is highly recommended .
Light: Place in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct harsh sun until seedlings are established.
Germination Time: Seeds typically germinate within 5 to 15 days, though they can sometimes take up to 28 days depending on conditions .
